PATRIOTS:  A SPECIAL TEA PARTY DEAL FROM RANGE MAGAZINE!

We're not left of center. We're not right of center.
We're at the center of a bullseye.

If there's one thing you can say about RANGE magazine,
it's that we're not afraid to take a stand.

When it comes to protecting the culture, the traditions,
the values of the American West,
we stand strong, with both feet firmly planted on the western range,
in favor of the responsible raising of cattle and sheep,
of intelligent use of natural resources, and the survival of rural communities.

Sometimes our stands ruffle feathers. Some accuse us of liberal bias.

Others of being too conservative. Others, something else altogether.

But, for us, it's not a question of political orientation. It's a matter of survival.

You, and everyone else who pays attention to what's going on out West,
is fully aware that the ranching business-and the accompanying way
of life-are under attack from many directions.

Big-business interests attempting to rape the land for shortterm profit.
Environmental interests wanting to build a bubble around the West with everyone,
and everything, on the outside.
Political interests who see western ranching as nothing more than a game piece in their power plays.
Bureaucratic interests who sway with the wind, managing the country with intransigent views
that are likely to change come every election day.

Award-winning quarterly RANGE magazine advocates for the West's real producers-
resisting all those attacks and more.

No matter whether they come from the left, the right, or any other direction on the political compass.

If that means ruffling feathers, so be it. You can help.

As one who loves the West, one who holds those values and traditions as sacred as we do,
your subscription to RANGE magazine will keep us armed for the fight.

You can help us by linking arms and standing strong for the survival of the American West.
You may not agree with every stand we take.

You may differ from time to time with our views on a particular issue.
But, you'll always know we're always working to protect the things we all hold dear.

And while we're keeping you informed about what's threatening your livelihood and how to fend off those threats,
we'll entertain you with stories, photography, art and ideas that celebrate the West.

Subscribe today.

Invite your friends, neighbors, acquaintances, and coworkers to join the fight.
Together, we can make a difference.
For today.
For tomorrow.
And for those parts of our living past worth preserving.

A Different Slant On The Obama Presidency

One 82-year-old lady loves Obama and she may have a very good point. She says that Obama is amazing, and is rebuilding the American dream! She gives us an entirely new slant on the "amazing" job Obama is doing, and she says that she will thank God for the President. Keep reading for her additional comments and an explanation.

When discussing Obama, she says:

1. Obama destroyed the Clinton Political Machine, driving a stake through the heart of Hillary's presidential aspirations - something no Republican was ever able to do.

2. Obama killed off the Kennedy Dynasty - no more Kennedys trolling Washington looking for booze and women wanting rides home.

3. Obama is destroying the Democratic Party before our eyes! Dennis Moore had never lost a race. Evan Bayh had never lost a race. Byron Dorgan had never lost a race. Harry Reid - soon to be GONE! These are just a handful of the Democrats whose political careers Obama has destroyed. By the end of 2010, dozens more will be gone. Just think, in December of 2008 the Democrats were on the rise. In the last two election cycles, they had picked up 14 Senate seats and 52 House seats. The press was touting the death of the Conservative Movement and the Republican Party. However, in just one year, Obama put a stop to all of this and will probably give the House - if not the Senate - back to the Republicans.

4. Obama has completely exposed liberals and progressives for what they are. Sadly, every generation seems to need to re-learn the lesson on why they should never actually put liberals in charge. Obama is bringing home the lesson very well:

Liberals tax, borrow and spend.

Liberals won't bring themselves to protect America.

Liberals want to take over the economy.

Liberals think they know what is best for everyone.

Liberals are not happy until they are running YOUR life.

5. Obama has brought more Americans back to conservatism than anyone since Reagan. In one year, he has rejuvenated the Conservative Movement and brought out to the streets millions of freedom loving Americans. Name one other time when you saw your friends and neighbors this interested in taking back America!

6. Obama, with his "amazing leadership," has sparked the greatest period of sales of firearms and ammunition this country has seen. Law abiding citizens have rallied and have provided a "stimulus" to the sporting goods field while other industries have failed, faded, or moved off-shore.

7. In all honesty, one year ago I was more afraid than I have been in my life. Not afraid of the economy, but afraid of the direction our country was going. I thought, Americans have forgotten what this country is all about. My neighbors and friends, even strangers, have proved to me that my lack of confidence in the greatness and wisdom of the American people has been flat wrong.

8. When the American people wake up, no smooth talking teleprompter reader can fool them! Barack Obama has served to wake up these great Americans!

Again, I want to say: "Thank you, Barack Obama!" After all, this is exactly the kind of hope and change we desperately needed!!

November 2nd is HUGE!!!!

An Open Letter to the Rural New Mexican‏

Greetings Friends,

I write hoping that the gather was easy, the harvest bountiful, and all in your camp are slick, fat and safe.

We are in a bit of a twist here in New Mexico.  We come to this election year with troubles all around us.  No need to go into the national situation, we all watch the news.  We all know that it isn't pretty.  If you are anything like me, you probably feel as impotent and helpless as I, when it comes to affecting any kind of real change at the national level.  Congressmen from Massachusetts can join forces with liberals and radical environmentalists here, and pass legislation that directly impacts your life and livelihood.

I used to wonder how could this happen? I think I have it ciphered out.  We in the rural west have been on the snooze, again.  Did you know that the voters of the rural west could change the swing of any election in the state, if they were to vote?  Well, we can. We have had a bad habit for too many years of just stickin' our heads in the sand and hoping that the evil doers in Washington and Santa Fe would just leave us alone.  We figured if we were polite and quiet, they would just pass us by and leave us alone.  That hasn't worked out too terrible well, has it ?

This year we have a chance for real, honest, meaningful change in Santa Fe -- let’s not waste it.

We have all seen the damage done to the land, rural economies, private property rights and to our liberties in general by the last eight years with "Cowboy Bill" keeping the tally book.  Now his party wants to gift us with four more years of corruption, ineptitude and crookedness in the capital. Corruption is at the very heart of much of the dire situation we find ourselves in today.

We have in the persons of Susana Martinez (R) candidate for Governor, Matt Chandler (R) candidate for Attorney General, and Steve Pearce (R) candidate for United States Congress, a veritable triple threat to the graft, corruption, nepotism and cronyism that has for so long infected the Round House, Governor’s office, and near every governmental department in this state!

The old plumbers dictum may be applied. "Sh.. Stuff flows down hill" If you have crooked at the top, it will be allowed and even encouraged at every level below. Isn't this true? I am told by a high ranking individual in the Education Department that corruption in the Education system in New Mexico is nothing short of "pandemic".  We have seen judges indicted, police arrested, state and county officials convicted and a fair number of others that have been allowed to go slinkin' away scot free. I guess those were somehow better connected or related.  I have always been of a mind that we westerners are a cut above much of the general population, in that most tend to be for the straight road.

The time for sleeping and blissful ignorance is long past folks. I do not think I over state when I say that in this election year, we must stand for our rights, traditions and values, or see them swept away forever. I know that New Mexico is a heavily Democratic state. Well fine. If you can vote for a Democratic candidate without some degree of fear and loathing, go right ahead, but vote. Like many others of recent days, you may have good reason to regret that choice later as you ask the second official New Mexico question, "What Happened?"

I hope that you will join me this year in giving the corrupt in Santa Fe the boot and vote in a trio of politicos that have a plan to take on the crookedness in the capital and state wide. They all happen to be Republicans, I am an independent and approach this as I would anything from a wall eyed horse to a wasps nest. I do believe however, that this bunch represents our last best chance for integrity in New Mexico Governance.

If it turns out that I am wrong, I'll be the first guy in line four years hence to give em the gate!  I hate a lying politician and have met one or two in the last couple of years.

Get off the dime folks! YOU can take the reins in this election. YOU do have the power. Get out and vote -- and if the home place is too far out in the weeds to rate a trip to town for your own liberty, get an absentee ballot.  But make yourself heard.  Get up on your hind legs and make some noise.  Or live quiet with the result.

Best regards to you and yours,

Frank Morris

PROS AND CONS TO FIVE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE NEW MEXICO STATE CONSTITUTION

There are five proposed amendments to the New Mexico State Constitution appearing on the Nov. 2 ballot. They can be found on the Internet at
http://www.nmlegis.gov. [On the upper left side, go to “Other Resources” and then click Legislative Publications, then “Constitutional Amendments (Arguments For and Against)” and then 2010 (Jul 10) ] What follows is an extremely edited summary.

A VERY BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE FIVE AMENDMENTS, PROS AND CONS.
(1) Allows state to establish a military veterans college scholarship fund for conflicts begun after 8/1/90. Currently, the state can establish a scholarship fund only for Vietnam veterans.
PRO: Extends the program to other than Vietnam vets.
CON: Creates another unfunded program at a time of great fiscal strain.
(2) Allows county officials to serve three consecutive four-year terms instead of two.
PRO: More continuity of expertise.
CON: Eight years is enough.
(3) Conforms state constitution to federal standards on voting age and duration of residency; replaces terminology “idiots” and “insane persons” who may not vote with legislative restrictions determined by “mental incapacity”; allows legislature to determine if felons can vote.
PRO: Conforms state to federal law, modernizes language.
CON: Way too complex. Too many separate issues involved. Plus, ballot language does not accurately reflect that restrictions on voting by felons are essentially eliminated.
(4) Exempts from property taxes facilities used primarily by vets and their families.
PRO: Churches and charitable organizations aren’t taxed. Plus, affects only 175 vets‘ organizations st atewide, “--minimal fiscal impact.“
CON: Does not support a public benefit. Reducing tax base “--in order to exempt social clubs is not wise public policy.”
(5) Allows current, as opposed to former legislators, to be appointed to state jobs if the legislator first resigns, and the job wasn’t created or changed during the term from which the legislator resigns.
PRO: Takes advantage of the sometimes scarce expertise of legislators, who are now prevented from resigning to take a government position.
CON: Current law, in effect since 1912, prevents undue influence of legislators by appointing officials, and offers some protection against corruption in the appointive process.

.... There are also four bond issues up for a vote, totaling about $175 million.
